Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works at NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. Mitchell graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing in New York City. Mitchell began her career as an TV reporter and radio reporter at the time in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was appointed chief congressional correspondent in the year 1992. was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She also served as a panelist in the debates for president in 1988, between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was the former chairman for Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her role in the defense from the infringement of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She covered a myriad of important stories like arm control, budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently together with the president Reagan to summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
